A heat pump provides heating, cooling, and humidity control—all in one system. It works like an air conditioner in the summer and reverses in the winter to heat your home. In colder climates, a cold-climate heat pump can drastically reduce heating costs while offering air conditioning in warmer months.
Heat pumps extract heat from the outdoors to warm your home or remove heat to cool it. The most common type is an air-source heat pump (ASHP), which draws heat from the air, but ground-source (geothermal) systems pull heat from the ground. Both can be used with ducted systems, ductless units, or hydronic floor heating.

In order for a heat pump system to qualify for the program the unit must be COLD CLIMATE CERTIFIED. Even though a heat pump system is COLD CLIMATE CERTIFIED that does not mean that it will be the most efficient at heating your home.
